How to Prepare

Here’s how to prepare:

• Start with NTN’s official study guides. These include practice questions and test-taking strategies tailored to the actual exam.
  
• Decide where you’ll test. You can take the exam virtually or at one of NTN’s in-person testing sites.
  
• Understand the format. The test includes video-based scenarios where you’ll respond as if you were an officer on duty.
  
• Use the practice time wisely. Just like the real thing, the practice test is timed and gives you a feel for pacing.
  

Remember, your NTN score must be submitted during the open application window to move forward in the process. And yes, you can transfer over an existing valid score.

Get Ready for the PFQ
The PFQ consists of four exercises designed to measure your fitness and readiness for the physical demands of the job:

• 1.5-mile run
• 1-minute pushups
• 1-minute sit-ups
• 165 lb dummy drag (32 feet)

Tips for Success:

• Train progressively. Give yourself 4–6 weeks to build endurance and strength.
• Simulate the test. Use our downloadable PFQ Score Sheet to self-test and track progress.
• Prioritize consistency. Cardio, core, and functional strength training 3–4 times per week can improve results.
• Stay hydrated and rest. Recovery is key to avoiding injury.
